Sam built his retail store working around the clock.
It became so successful he drew attention from retailers around the state. Even more attention from his landlord. When the lease came up for renewal, the landlord refused to renew,
kicked Sam out of the building, and continued to run Sam's business. Sam was left without a penny.
Anita was a mother left alone with no income.
Anita had an infant, no way to support herself, and her husband had left on a 2 year journey leaving her alone with no family to help.
Henry was 40 years old and a miserable failure.

Over my life I have found great inspiration and knowledge from these titans of industry, and many more. I did not have anyone
around me to teach me about business or how to make money without being an employee. But I had what all
of us have, the ability to read about those that have already obtained success.
Almost all successful people are willing to share with others how to be successful, as long as
it is done in an efficient way, such as writing a book or recording a tape or video. They have
learned to make the most of their time, to leverage it. So if they can spend a week out of their
life writing a book, and then let that book teach all those that want taught, they will do it.
After all, how could they personally help everyone that wants their help one on one?
"A very odd proposal from the world's richest man."
One day a young man was invited into the home office of Andrew Carnegie, the founder of U.S. Steel. Andrew
was one of the most famous captains of industry in the late 19th and early 20th centuries. He was
also the richest man in the world.
The young man he invited into his office was very poor. He was a journalism and law student, struggling
to pay his bills and get through his schooling.
Andrew had spent the weekend with this young man, getting to know him, asking him questions. It all seemed
odd to this young man that someone as Andrew would have any interest in a nobody such as he. However,
after they had both sit down in Andrew's office, he asked the young man, "If I were to give you letters
of introduction to some of the most successful men in the world, would you spend 20 years interviewing them, and
researching history's most successful men, without any financial help from me, so you could write a book about how to be successful that
any ordinary person could read and understand?" (This may not be the exact words, this is from my memory
but I have read it dozens of times).
If the richest man in the world, today Bill Gates, were to ask you to go to work for him for free for 20 years would you do it?
This young man did not know that Andrew had started a timer when he asked the question. This young man had 60
seconds to answer. If he did not answer within that time, Andrew would not have given him the job even if he had
said yes. But, this young man did say yes before 60 seconds were up.
That young man was Napoleon Hill, who wrote the course "The Science of Success", and then the book "Think and Grow Rich",
which have been attributed to making more millionaires around the globe than any other book or human
in history.
If you have not yet read "Think and Grow Rich" I implore you to do so immediately. If you have not read it in the
last few years, I urge you to do so again.
"I attribute any success I have had in my life to Napoleon Hill."
If Napoleon Hill had not wrote the book "Think and Grow Rich", I would not have gained the
skills I needed to do what I wanted in my life. I had a strong desire already to do
something big, to have my own business, to be my own boss, and to be happy.
"Think and Grow Rich" gave me a road map on what to do each step of the way. And I learned
from this book that to be truly successful you cannot live in a vacuum. You must work
with others, and be willing to help others.
This does not mean that is the only book I read. I have spent my life gobbling up books
about successful people and trying to learn how they succeeded. My office has a wall
full of books I have read from the floor to the ceiling. I also have thousands of
hours of tapes and CD's I have listened to, in my quest to perfect my own skills.
During my telemarketing career as just a telemarketer, I would spend my afternoons
reading books on sales and marketing, and writing down closes that I thought were an improvement, test them, and
then read and tweak again. I did this every afternoon while the other telemarketers
were playing. We worked an evening and morning shift. They would tease me for
not going with them to "relax" or whatever it was they were doing, but they also
never understood why I was always the top salesperson.
Now of course I did have other skills that my father taught me, working hard, doing more
than I was paid to do, be kind to others, and to always be honest. But had it not
been for "Think and Grow Rich" I never would have been able to use the skills given
me from my father to build my businesses I wanted to build.
After all, my father himself was hard working, very honest, kind, and always did
more than he was paid to do. But he was still very very poor.
But perhaps, I don't owe my success to Napoleon Hill. Perhaps I owe it to Andrew Carnagie
who commissioned Napoleon Hill to write the book, for it would never have been written
otherwise.
Or perhaps, I owe my success to Andrew Carnegie's uncle. His uncle recommended that
he start work as a telegraph messenger boy for the Ohio Telegraph Company. From that
Andrew gained access to libraries and theater where he used this knowledge to work his
way up the ranks of the Pennsylvania Railroad Company and learn about investments.
If this had not happened perhaps Andrew would never have become the richest man in the world.
Or perhaps I owe my success to Andrew's father, who brought his family to the USA from Scotland. If he
had not done that, none of these events surely would have happened.
My point is that our lives are effected by not only events and people from today, but also from
events and people that effected those people in the past, and so on and so on.

to achieve success in your business and marketing endeavors."
I have been imbued with a strong artistic, mathematical, and entrepreneurial spirit since as early
as I can remember, and I am sure since birth. At the age of 2 I could completely understand
English being spoken around me even though I could not yet speak it. At the age of 12 I had
the highest math scores in the history of our school, and in high school I was in the top 3%
nationwide for mathematics.
I am no where near these mathematical geniuses you see on TV shows such as "Numbers". I personally
know many people with double the math skills I have. But the skills I do possess have been
very helpful to me in more ways in life than most people would ever imagine.
I have won many awards statewide and nationwide for my artistic creations. Many of my pieces are
in museums and personal galleries around America. Mostly in Wyoming.
But of all the passions I have possessed, none have ever been as strong as my entrepreneurial inclinations.
Sitting in the Sheridan, Wyoming library at the age of 19 I read for the first time the definition of
"Entrepreneur" in a magazine. This was a very long and detailed definition, more than you would find
in a dictionary. At that moment I knew I had found EXACTLY what I was!
As a child my family was very poor. My father worked in a local supermarket stocking groceries,
unloading trucks, taking care of customers, and whatever else was needed by the boss at the time.
It was not enough for our family to live on however, so after working hard all day Dad would
clean barbershops in the evenings, or do the delivery drops to the newspaper boys early in the
morning. He would do whatever he could get to keep food on the table.
I would always help him with whatever jobs there were to do since it was before or after school.
I would also help with fishing and hunting as that provided 90% of our meat, and I would help
my mother in the garden that helped produce a good part of our vegetables.
After I became an adult and finished my college years, (which I paid for myself, working to get through school),
I decided I wanted to try to live in Sheridan, Wyoming. I was 22 years old and looking for a job.
I found out very quickly that any jobs available to me in Sheridan would not even pay me
enough to live. I was not going to get caught in the same trap my father had.
That is when I decided to start my own cleaning company since I had experience as a child helping
my father. Also I had made friends with school janitors who provided me with an amazing amount
of technical knowledge regarding the cleaning business.
"I started a janitorial company with $17.00 worth of pop bottles."
I had no money to start a company. But I did not let this stop me. I dug around and found $17.00
worth of pop bottles, and cashed them in so I could purchase a mop bucket with a squeegee. I then found a very good 32 ounce mop with a handle in a
trash bin behind the super market where my Dad worked at. I had what I needed to get started.
Next I started contacting businesses to get janitorial contracts. The first January, 1981 was very
hard, I only made $50.00. I did not have anyone else to provide food for me, and I had purchased
a trailer house to live in. I was not going to ask anyone for help either. But somehow I
made it through that cold January of 1981.
If I had known about the systematic contacting of local business owners I would have done much better,
but it would take me another year to discover this method. In the meantime, I worked hard at getting
contracts and I did survive.
By 1984 I had established a very substantial cleaning company. I had truck mounted carpet cleaning machines,
dry foam portable carpet cleaning equipment, buffers, large vacuums, fans, chimney cleaning vacuums,
disaster restoration tools, window cleaning equipment to handle
cleaning 6 floors up from the ground, over $100,000 worth of equipment and 18 employees. All of this
I obtained by putting any profits back into the company, and I survived on keeping only $700.00 per month
for myself to live on.
"I lost everything in just 1 day."
But then I lost everything in one day. The local coal strip mines, which had been expected to resolve
a strike and go back to work, announced that they would not and there was no hope of anytime soon resolving
the conflict between the union and management.
The coal mines were the main industry Sheridan depended on. We were all struggling and hoping
for the miners to go back to work, but this dashed the hopes any of the local businesses had of prospering in the
near future.
Since the first thing a business cuts back on is janitorial, I set in my office all morning taking
calls and apologies as all of my clients cancelled. In just one morning my business was gone.
I decided to go to Denver, Colorado which was 460 miles south of Sheridan. I took my wife and son
and started over again. I had success in Denver, but not before learning a lot of lessons about
how crooks love to prey on the young ambitious people that are down on their luck. I even learned
that helping out "friends" by giving them a place to live could let you find your kitchen and house
bare of your month's supply of groceries, light-bulbs, and everything you depended on to get you
until the next month's billings came in. This I found one day after arriving home from working
and my wife had gone out to do errands. They took advantage of our kindness.
I learned that you could work 2 weeks on a contract, do a fantastic job, even having the
owners of the house bragging all the while on the work you are doing, just to have the
check bounce and never collect.
I learned that a senator running for re-election, after losing the election, decided he would not
pay any of his vendors, leaving months of cleaning bills unpaid, and my gas tank empty.
I learned a lot about people and business in Denver, Colorado.
Then in 1987 I moved to Columbus, Ohio, where I still
reside. (In Gahanna, a suburb). Starting over once again, I built many successful businesses
starting in 1987, and then in 1995 I started working full time with internet sales. Below I give you
a list of some of my accomplishments.
Mostly I tell you this story so that you can see that if a person wants to succeed, and all they
have is $17 worth of pop bottles and a mop from a dumpster, it can be done.
However, it sure does help to have someone that can point the way for you and help you to create
plans that will speed up your success journey.
Over my life here are areas that I have become expert in, and can share with you:
1. Telemarketing. I was a champion telemarketer in over 100 contests always inviting challenges from the best.
2. Building a telemarketing business: I built and ran a telemarketing company with over 1000 employees.
3. Recruiting salespeople,. I have recruited and trained well over 10,000 telemarketers and door to door salespeople.
4. Door to Door sales, residential. I, like many kids, started my door to door career selling greeting cards and
Grit newspaper. Later as an adult I was #1 door to door home alarm salesperson for Guardian, a 50 year old home alarm company with
50 offices and 1000 salespeople nationwide. (I worked for Guardian even though I was earning $10,000 per month on the interent at the time because I wanted to hone my sales skills).
5. Door to Door sales, business.
6. Direct and bulk email marketing. I have been known by those that really know what happens in the background
of internet marketing, as the foremost ethical and successful direct email marketer. I have spoke in front
of a room full of millionaires to teach them how to do direct and bulk email marketing.
7. Sales letter creation for email and websites.
8. Retail sales of products over the internet. In 1995 and 1996, when marketing on the internet was
almost non existant compared to today, I made $200,000.00 in profit selling products over the internet.
9. Lead generation. I have produced millions of leads over the years on the internet for business
opportunities. Even before the internet I had produced leads with telemarketing and was selling
them to insurance, real estate, and automobile salespeople.

nationwide. I can say that I have mastered the technique.
14. Sales management. I have not only hired, trained, and managed salespeople, but also other sales managers,
district managers, and even bosses for the district managers.
15. Business management.
16. Networking. I have worked with network marketing companies building groups as large as 200,000 people
During 1998 to 1999, for 1.5 years, 15% of all members coming into Cognigen, a publicly held company that
sold internet dialup, long distance, and other services, were my personal recruits. My overall organization
reached over 50,000 people.
17. HTML, website building. Everything you see here I built. Its not always fancy, but it works.
